There’s a new area on Binghamton's Southside for visitors to enjoy animal exhibits, music and educational programs.

The amphitheater at Ross Park Zoo had been heavily damaged by the 2011 flood. It has now been relocated out of harm’s way near the former lion cage in the lower zoo.

The 400-thousand dollar project features seven rows of concrete seating, a partially covered stage and lighting improvements.

The 300 seat amphitheater was officially unveiled by officials August 20.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation awarded the project a 300-thousand dollar grant with the City covering the remaining 100-thousand dollars. McDonald’s is providing a five-thousand dollar annual sponsorship to help pay for entertainment.
