Binghamton’s Ross Park Zoo is again in the position of operating without accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The zoo on the South Side on Morgan Road has been working on a continuing improvement plan, but the AZA, during a visit in July, apparently didn’t believe the re-zoo-venation efforts were enough to maintain accreditation.

The zoo had previously lost accreditation in 2004.

The loss of accreditation has no impact on daily operations of the zoo but does make it a little more difficult to compete for funding.

The zoo won’t be able to apply for reinstatement for at least a year.
