NYSEG Tries out Drones in Western New York

New York State Electric and Gas has announced it is testing drones to inspect transmission lines and natural gas transmission line rights of way.

The remote controlled miniature helicopters started being tried out in October at 26 NYSEG substations in Western New York.

NYSEG officials say the results are encouraging so far and the drones could be a way to more safely inspect lines instead of using low-flying manned aircraft.
