A veteran New York state trooper has died of injuries sustained when he was hit by a vehicle in Saratoga County.

Authorities say 55-year-old Trooper Timothy Pratt was struck as he assisted the driver of a tractor-trailer in Wilton.

The incident happened about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday on Ballard Road near the Wilton state police barracks.

Officials say Pratt was initially treated at Saratoga Hospital. He then was flown to Albany Medical Center, where he died around 9:30 a.m.

Trooper Pratt became a member of the New York State Police on March 30, 1987. He was assigned to the Traffic Incident Management unit at the state police station in Wilton. He served his entire career with Troop G, based in Latham.

Pratt served in the United States Air Force from 1979 to 1886.

Pratt lived in South Glens Falls. He is survived by his fiancèe, two sons and a daughter.
