Broome County Executive Debbie Preston joined  agency representatives in announcing the formation of the Broome Opioid Abuse Council or "BOAC".

The new council will address a number of issues and problems related to the selling and use of illegal drugs. The "BOAC" is meant to heighten the fight against illegal drugs and take the drive to eliminate dangerous drugs to a higher level.

Other agency representatives were on hand for the announcement today.  They included Commissioner of Social Services and Mental Health Art Johnson, Broome County Medical Director Dr. Christopher Ryan, Broome County Sheriff David Harder and Emergency Medical Director Ray Serowik.

Preston says "we will attack this growing problem head on."  The new council will focus on addressing a number of issues such as community education, medical profession guidance and outreach awareness.  Preston says "we want to make sure everyone gets the help they need."
