A new program to coordinate information and protection for students living and studying in Downtown Binghamton is just getting underway.

The new police liaison officer, Dan Flanders and Binghamton University Police Chief, Timothy Faughnan appear on the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up, airing both September 6 and 13.

The men discuss the thought behind the formation of the program, problems that both residents of the City of Binghamton and students have identified and the educational aspect of the position, including offering information on crime prevention.

Faughnan and Flanders say they are hoping for a cooperative effort linking students with their surrounding community, increasing their investment in the area.

The program is a joint effort between the City of Binghamton and Binghamton University.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
