Vestal police are trying to find a suspect in connection with a pair of residential burglaries that occurred today.

Investigators say the incidents occurred on Main Street and Pierce Hill Road between 7:40 and 9:30 this morning. One of the homes was occupied at the time.

According to a detective, a woman who lives between the two crime scenes discovered a man trying to enter a screened porch behind her house around 8:45 a.m.

When the resident confronted the stranger, he claimed to be with an insurance company and said he had the wrong house. The man quickly left the area in a dark blue sedan.

Similar home burglaries in the town of Chenango were reported earlier this week. A suspect in those incidents was believed to be driving a small dark blue car that may have had a hatchback.

Those burglaries are being investigated by the Broome County Sheriff's Office.

People with information about the incidents may contact the Vestal police at 607.754.2477 extension 347 or the sheriff's office detectives at 607.778.2053.
