Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Janis began working as interim undersheriff on August 17, two weeks after Akshar formally launched his campaign.

Akshar was sworn in to represent the 52nd Senate District late Tuesday night.

Sheriff David Harder said Janis has been "doing a good job" since he started working for the department about two-and-a-half months ago.

Although Janis has agreed to stay as the undersheriff, Harder said it will take some time before his "interim" title is removed. The sheriff said the position must be advertised.

The 57-year-old Janis said he's enjoyed his new job, which he accepted after working for the New York State Police for 34 years. He said: "I've got no complaints."

For now, Akshar's name remains in place outside the door of his former office at the county Public Safety Facility.

Harder said he plans to order a new sign soon.
