Investigation Completed Into Ellis Brothers Blaze

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [April 30, 2014][/caption]Binghamton fire investigators have been unable to determine the exact cause of the fire that ripped through the Ellis Brothers Furniture building on Water Street.

Fire marshal Daniel Eggleston says the final report concluded the April 30 blaze may have been the result of "multiple accidental causes."

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [May 21, 2014][/caption]Eggleston says the fire originated in a storage area on the southeast corner of the building.

The fire marshal says investigators determined the blaze could have been linked to electrical equipment, an extension cord to a refrigerator or rags that were used for furniture staining.

Eggleston says there were no indications that the fire was the result of non-accidental causes.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze. The brick exterior of the building that remained after the fire was demolished after engineers determined it was in danger of collapsing.
