Broome County officials say an enormous solar farm is to be developed at the Broome Corporate Park in Conklin.

The 20 acre facility, which will be one of the largest in the state, is expected to generate 4 mega-watts of power that will be used at county facilities like the jail and the airport.

Solar City is developing the site for the county.

County Executive Debra Preston has said the generation of solar power is expected to save the county $5 million over 20 years.

The facility is expected to be ready for operation this fall.

The project is being funded by Solar City and grants from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
