Binghamton City Council could take action to restore funding for senior bus transportation services operated by Catholic Charities of Broome County.

In recent budget actions, lawmakers had rejected a request for $14,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding for the program.

Catholic Charities said it would not be able to operate its buses without the money.

Council may redirect some CDBG money from other agencies to the buses.

Catholic Charities officials have said elimination of the service could severely impact Binghamton area senior citizens who rely on the program to get to doctor appointments, stores and community services.

Council could take pieces of funding from eight agencies in order to restore allocations to the bus program.
