Music is not in the air at the Binghamton Forum Theater as the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra has cancelled the first concert of the 2015-2016 season over a contract dispute.

A proposed two year agreement between the musicians’ union and the orchestra board of directors was rejected.

Negotiators with the union say they are still considering an offer that was made by the board at the last meeting in mediation.

Travel expenses for musicians living more than 10 miles away from the theater downtown appear to be the main issue.

People holding tickets for the September 26 concert can turn them in for tickets to upcoming performances, ask for refunds or donate the tickets to the orchestra.

For information, call the Binghamton Philharmonic Box Office at (607) 723-3931.
