A Southside Binghamton business that was damaged during a fire at a neighboring business on a Vestal Avenue plaza in January is welcoming customers again.

Bates Troy Quality Dry Cleaning was forced to temporarily close due to smoke and water damage sustained when the nearby Family Dollar store burned in the early morning hours of January 3.  The fire was believed to have started right around midnight.

The fire was ruled an accident as a result of a malfunction with an electrical outlet.

There were no injuries.

The blaze pressed all of the City’s fire departments into action with Vestal and Five Mile Point being called in to assist.

That morning, fire officials say due to the make up of the merchandise in the store, including a lot of plastic, the fire burned so hot that it partially melted some steel support beams in the Family Dollar.

Other stores in the plaza have also reopened following some clean up of smoke and water damage.
