A new natural gas pipeline will be traveling through parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Southern Tier of New York, delivering gas from the Marcellus Shale drilling operations to markets in New England.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved construction of the $700 million, 124-mile long Constitution Pipeline that will run through Susquehanna County and through parts of Broome, Chenango and Delaware Counties.

Tulsa Oklahoma-based Williams Partners and Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation of Houston, Texas are the lead partners with Williams operating the pipeline.

Opponents to the pipeline have cited safety concerns as well as issues involving the environment and property values along the route.

Host counties stand to potentially gain millions of dollars in property tax revenues.

The pipeline construction is expected to get underway early next year and the system could begin delivering gas to Northeast markets by next winter.
