College Basketball Shines In March

WNBF News/ Roger Neel Photo

Aside from the harsh and never ending winter weather March is a wonderful time of year for sports fans.  Basketball fans have dozens of games to pick from as teams vie for conference championships and NCAA bids.  The Binghamton Bearcats got their shot in Albany and now both teams are done for the season.  If you are a  Syracuse fan you are hoping the Orange can get rejuvenated for the conference tournament and Big Dance.

As fans are finding out it doesn’t have to be top-25 teams battling it out to make it exciting.  One of the best games I have seen in a long time was the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in Baltimore between the University of Delaware and William & Mary. The Blue Hens came from behind to win 75-74.  There was plenty of excitement in the back and forth game. And….the officials let the players play.  There was contact and plenty of physical play but play wasn’t stopped over and over for trips to the foul line.

Mount St. Mary’s, a team  BU beat earlier this season, defeated Robert Morris to win the North East Conference crown and gain the automatic bid to the tournament.  And then there will be Saturday’s Albany at Stony Brook championship game for the America East title at Stony Brook on ESPN2 at 11:30 AM.  Only one thing would be better…BU there and hopefully, that is on next year’s calendar !!!
