The central column has been installed at the ACA Memorial Park that's under construction on Front Street in Binghamton.

The column and other granite pieces for the monument were delivered Wednesday to the site at Front and Clinton streets.

Project coordinator David Marsland says pavement work is about to be done, along with the installation of benches. Bird sculptures are expected to be mounted to stands late this month.

Marsland says some elements for the memorial park have yet to be completed. Plaques naming the people who died in the 2009 American Civic Association shooting are being created. A plaque naming major donors also is being designed.

Paving stones bearing individual messages are being engraved.

Donations may still be made to cover park construction and maintenance expenses.

The memorial construction is expected to be completed next month.
