Next summer, there should be a new source of healthy, fresh foods year-round locally.

Ground was broken October 20 on a new regional Farmers Market at Cornell Cooperative Extension on Upper Front Street in the Town of Dickinson.

In addition to encouraging local agriculture, officials say they expect the close proximity to the highways will also encourage tourism.

The operations will be lead by experts at Cornell Cooperative Extension and includes a commercial kitchen so vendors can prepare foods to sell in the region.

The facility is expected to be open by late summer of next year.
