Broome County Executive Debra Preston has announced that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer.  Preston said following two months of tests the final diagnosis came on Tuesday.  She said Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City will determine and schedule treatment procedures.  She said she believes treatment will begin within the next two weeks.

The County Executive said she has one more test tomorrow with those results scheduled to be sent to Sloan Kettering.  Preston said she had hoped to wait to make the announcement until more treatment details were available.  However, she said rumors began to fly concerning her health and that she wanted to get out the correct information as soon as possible.

Preston stressed that she is not planning to leave office. She also said she does not intend to take any extended leave while undergoing treatment.
