Drivers around the Twin Tiers already are paying higher gasoline prices than a week ago and the increases are likely to continue.

Some Binghamton-area gas stations have raised pump prices by 14 cents a gallon in the last ten days. One local station increased its prices by eight cents a gallon from Thursday to Friday.

Industry analysts are predicting more increases in the days ahead. Some suggest prices will spike by as much as 30 cents a gallon over the next few weeks.

Wholesale oil prices have been going up recently. Some of that trend has been attributed to tensions in Egypt.

According to the AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report for the Binghamton area, Friday's average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.70. That compares to an average price of $3.58 a year ago.

The Syracuse market was listed as having the lowest current gas price in New York state, with an average reported price of $3.63 a gallon.
