Nearly four weeks into spring, the National Weather Service is forecasting some sleet and snow for much of the Binghamton area.

The New York State Department of Transportation still has plenty of salt on hand in the event it's needed.

A flood watch has been issued for the Southern Tier and northeastern Pennsylvania through Tuesday evening.

Forecasters said the rain could be moderate to heavy at times before it turns over to sleet and snow.

There could be enough rain to cause flooding in urban and low-lying areas.

Some smaller streams and creeks could spill over their banks. A few roads might also be washed out.

A rapid freeze late in the afternoon could cause icy roadways and hazardous travel conditions.
