The Binghamton Bearcats softball team had their season ended this afternoon as they lost to the Stony Brook Seawolves 9-0 in an elimination game at the America East Softball Championship Tournament at the Bearcats Sports Complex.  That loss coupled with an earlier 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Albany Great Danes knocked the Bearcats out of the double elimination event.

Binghamton got off to a bad start versus Stony Brook as the Bearcats gave up five runs in the first inning on two hits and a pair of errors.  Gina Bianculli had the big blow in the inning with a three-run triple.  Then came another big inning for the Seawolves as they struck for four more runs in the fourth inning.

To go along with the two big innings Stony Brook pitcher Allison Cukrov allowed just one hit on the way to a complete game victory.  Three Binghamton errors accounted for six of the Seawolves nine runs.

Binghamton ends the season with the highest win total since 1995 when the team ended the season with a 37-8 mark.  The Bearcats eneded up 30-17 and came into the Championship Tournament as a second seed after losing the regular season title to Albany on a 3-2 decision last weekend.

Play continues tomorrow with Albany meeting Stony Brook at the Bearcats Sports Complex at noon.  If Albany wins they earn the America East Championship and an automatic NCAA post-season berth.  If the Seawolves win the two teams would meet in a second game to decide the title.
