Authorities say the blaze at 55 Glann Road was reported around five o'clock Sunday afternoon.

Apalachin firefighters were assisted by units from Campville. The fire was brought under control after about 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Tioga County fire investigator Frank Okrasinski says a ground wire into the house became energized for some reason. The wire became hot and that caused wood in the basement to ignite.

Okrasinski says an Apalachin fire unit was across the street because an electrical line had come down earlier. Firefighters noticed smoke coming from a window of the house and called for assistance.

Okrasinski says it's not known whether the downed power line may have caused the ground wire into the home to become energized.

There was heavy fire damage to the basement and minor damage to the first floor of the house.
