The annual Jim "Mudcat" Grant All Star Golf Tournament returns to the Southern Tier September 3 at the Links at Hiawatha Landing and details can be heard on the August 8 edition of the Southern Tier Close Up.

Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton, Marybeth Smith speaks about Catholic Charities, The Broome County Urban League, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton and Catholic Charities of Broome County that benefit from the proceeds from the tournament, which is sponsored by Security Mutual in Binghamton.

Smith also talks about the involvement of the legendary Mudcat Grant and participating athletic stars which includes visits to hospitals and nursing homes.  Smith says a big highlight every year is Mudcat's inspirational talk to the children at the Boys and Girls Clubs encouraging them to persevere, no matter the odds.

Sponsorships are still available but time is running out for teams to sign up.  Each participating team is captained by a celebrity athlete.

Smith also talks about the work of the Boys and Girls Clubs in the region, emphasizing academics as well as sports and other skills.
