Broome County Legislator Jason Garnar says he will collect signatures calling for a referendum should the County Executive sign a measure into law that would give non-union county employees, including elected officials, pay raises based on the rate negotiated with the Civil Service Employees Association.

The 14th District Democrat says residents have made it clear they oppose elected officials being tied to the negotiated raise in the measure that passed nine to four in the legislature last month.

County Executives Debra Preston's office has not said if the Republican has decided whether she will sign the bill into law.
