Construction crews are busy at the site of the new baseball stadium complex at Binghamton University's Vestal campus.

University President Harvey Stenger said about 50 people now are working on the project, which was announced last February. It's being financed by a $60 million donation.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program Friday, Stenger said eventually he expects 150 construction workers will be involved on the project in the next six months or so. The 84,000-square-foot facility will be built near the Events Center off Bunn Hill Road.

Stenger said the work began with the demolition of the old stadium. He said buried water, sewer and electrical lines now are being relocated.

The project now is expected to be completed in about 14 months. Work was delayed after original bids came in above budget. The COVID-19 pandemic also affected the timetable.
