The blaze on Collins Street was called in at around 9:30 p.m. and drew firefighters from four companies to the scene.

The fire apparently began in a second-floor bathroom and spread into the attic.

Fire officials say the situation could have been much worse had the flames progressed more to the outside of the structure where the strong winds that had been gusting all day at up to 40 mph could have quickly pushed the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters from Whitney Point, Chenango, Killawog and Lisle responded to the scene along with law enforcement and ambulance teams.
