When Will Oakdale Mall Reopen?
With temperatures expected to peak in the mid 80s or higher through the weekend, one area traditionally a haven of air conditioning may be available again to residents in parts of New York State that recently went into Phase Four of the NYForward reopening plans.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says shopping malls in Phase 4 can reopen starting July 10 provided they have the high-grade filter systems that are rated as MERV 11, 12 or 13 that are believed to be able to remove smaller particles that could contain and spread the coronavirus.
Destiny USA in Syracuse is expected to roll out the welcome mat but other malls may take longer to get up to speed on the state mandates.
The Oakdale Mall in Johnson City has indicated to some media outlets like Spectrum News that it will reopen as soon as possible.
There was no word about whether the shopping facility, which also houses some Broome County and New York State government offices, has the minimum required MERV 11 grade of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system now or how long it may take for a filtration upgrade.
