Voting Opens for Binghamton’s Box Lacrosse Team’s Name
The Professional Box Lacrosse Association is coming to Binghamton in the near future, but before the team arrives they need help from Binghamton residents on choosing the team name.
Voting is officially open for lacrosse fans to help name the team that will call Binghamton home for the foreseeable future. Now fair warning, the available names don't have quite the historic significance to the City of Binghamton that the renaming of the now Binghamton Rumble Ponies did. There are no options that honor the city's carousel and spiedie sandwich history. That special honor was clearly reserved for the double-A team that had already spent years becoming an important part of the Binghamton community.
Instead, fans are asked to vote between four options. The Binghamton Bombers, Bravehearts, Blast and Brawlers. If you're interested in voting, you can do so on the Professional Box Lacrosse Association's website.
The league also features a team in Elmira, New York and Syracuse New York. The team name choices for Elmira are the Elmira, Express, Renegades and Huckleberries. The Syracuse choices are the Syracuse Sasquatch, Revolution, Flow and Sparklemuffins.
Not to play favorites, but it seems Binghamton may have the superior team name choices in New York.
It also occurs to me that there's no way to prevent Binghamton residents from voting for other team names too. So it would hypothetically be possible to flood the ballot box of other teams with a lame choice to ensure Binghamton has the coolest team in the league.
After the votes have been tallied, the league will officially reveal the name of each team on August 16th.
