VIDEO: Final Shoe Drops on EJ’s West Endicott Complex
The old Endicott Johnson Fair Play factory in the town of Union is slowly but surely coming down.
Over the years, thousands of people worked in the West Endicott plant to manufacture millions of pairs of shoes that were sold around the world.
Folks who live in "EJ homes" in the neighborhood near the abandoned complex have wanted it removed because it had become an eyesore and it posed a safety hazard.
National Pipe and Plastics has announced plans to construct an office building on the site, which is located near the company's recently-opened production facility.
The property at North Page Avenue and and Maple Street was acquired from Broome County government for $100,000.
Gorick Construction Company workers expect the demolition job will take several weeks to complete.
