New York Makes Strides In Veteran Support And Affordability

Thursday, November 21, 2025, New York Veterans joined Governor Kathy Hochul and New York State Assemblymember Steve Stern during an announcement that highlighted new and ongoing affordability initiatives aimed at better supporting New York’s veterans and families.

According to the presentation, veterans and their families were urged to check eligibility status for benefits administered through New York State, and to register for programs that lower costs.

New York’s veterans stepped up when our country needed them the most, putting everything on the line to protect our communities and our freedoms. We owe it to them to make sure that they never have to struggle to access their hard-earned benefits that provide security for themselves and their families. Benefits Offered To New York State Veterans

The announcement pointed out several additional benefits for New York State Veterans, including the Emergency Housing Fund, which provides up to $2,000 in immediate financial assistance for eligible veterans facing housing emergencies, Property Tax Exemptions for Veterans, and State Vehicle Registration Fee Exemption, which can help reduce the cost of maintaining personal vehicles.

In addition, earlier in November, the Governor designated New York as a Purple Heart State, which is aimed at expanding employment opportunities for disabled veterans and strengthening protections for veterans’ benefits.
