Vestal Police Officer Receives New York State Recognition
A veteran officer with the Vestal Police Department has been recognized for his ongoing efforts to keep impaired drivers off the road.
Officer Steven Will received the Recognition of Excellence Award from New York State Stop DWI and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.
According to Vestal police, Will made 87 impaired driving arrests last year. That number surpassed the arrests he made in previous years.
Will is on-call around the clock as one of the two specially-trained municipal Drug Recognition Experts in the Binghamton area.
Will conducted 31 evaluations in 2018, including 15 for other local agencies.
Will joined the Vestal Police Department in 2007. Prior to that, he worked for the New York State Park Police.
Will offers presentations at the Vestal Police Youth and Citizens Academy. He also educates Vestal Central School District students about the dangers of impaired driving.
