The owner of a popular Broome County Italian restaurant has announced the target date for opening a long-planned pizzeria in Vestal.

Frank LoPiccolo acquired a building at 1805 Vestal Parkway East last June for a new restaurant.

The eatery, which will occupy space that previously had been occupied by a Subway sandwich shop, will be called Piccolo's Pizzeria by Franks.

Remodeling for the pizza place started last summer. LoPiccolo originally had hoped for an opening by January but there have been a few delays in getting the the new restaurant ready.

LoPiccolo told WNBF News special pizza ovens were recently installed and construction is moving forward. He said he now plans to open the new business on April 15.

Plans call for the installation of a deck to provide some outdoor seating for restaurant patrons. A second deck may be added in the future.

LoPiccolo has operated Frank's Italian Restaurant in the town of Maine for nearly two decades. He said he's excited about the prospect of opening the new business in Vestal.

While the pizzeria will occupy the main floor of the Vestal Parkway building, LoPiccolo said there's space available for another tenant on the lower level.
