Residents likely will move into a newly-constructed nursing home in Vestal in the next few weeks.

The Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Sheedy Road was built to replace a flood-damaged facility located a few miles away.

Administrator Denise Johnson said the new site will allow additional levels of care to be provided.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Johnson said 160 beds will be available as part of the skilled nursing facility. There also will be a 40-bed assisted living program and an adult daycare program that will be able to accommodate 31 people.

Johnson said an open house for community residents and those interested in seeing the new facility will be held on June 12.

Nursing home residents now are living at temporary sites in Vestal and Binghamton. The first residents may be transferred to the new site starting on June 16.

Johnson said the nursing home is expected to employ about 250 people. She said most of those working at the site will be full-time employees.
