Opponents of Vestal Housing Development Say the Battle Isn't Over

People fighting a housing project in the town of Vestal are moving closer to taking the matter to court.

The town board last month approved the development of 161 units on a 42-acre site off Bunn Hill and Jensen roads.

A group called "Responsible Vestal Zoning" plans to hold a meeting Wednesday to discuss the board's vote to allow Landmark Properties of Georgia to proceed with the project.

According to a notice promoting the session, the project "will add 600 cars to upper Bunn Hill." The site of the housing development is about one mile south of the Binghamton University campus.

It's not known when Landmark intends to start construction on the Retreat at Bunn Hill project. Company representatives did not respond to a request for comment. Town supervisor John Schaffer was not available to discuss the project.

The meeting of the group opposed to the project is to be held outdoors. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 834 Bunn Hill Road.
