A major local business is investing more in the region to expand operations.

Upstate Shredding is building a 20,000 square foot development for a new metal processing facility at the former 84 Lumber plot in Owego.

Empire State Development is helping to bankroll the project with a $1 million grant.  The total cost is put at $7.5 million.

Owner, Adam Weitsman says the new heavy media plant will allow the company to use new technology to shred and process larger items that have previously been shipped overseas.

Weitsman said he anticipated 25 new jobs would be added for the new operation that is expected to be up and arunning at the end of the year.
