John Carrigg, UHS president and CEO, said it's "a transformational, monumental project" for the healthcare organization. He said it is "the largest project in our history."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program on Tuesday, Carrigg said "we are very close to being complete on the first three floors" of the six-story structure.

The project provides a new emergency and trauma center for Wilson. It also includes 120 single-occupancy room and a new MRI suite.

There's no specific date for the entire tower facility to become fully operational. Carrigg said UHS will be doing some additional work with village officials, including the police and fire departments.

A few more details remain to be addressed with the state Department of Health and the state Department of Transportation before all aspects of the Wilson Main Tower are in service.

A public open house will be held on Saturday to offer area residents an opportunity to learn more about the new facility.

Carrigg said people are welcome to visit the site for tours and refreshments. The open house is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
