Work on Binghamton’s Court Street Bridge Closing Traffic Lanes
An ongoing bridge maintenance project is affecting traffic between downtown Binghamton and the city's West Side.
Crews from R. DeVincentis Construction have been working on the Court Street Bridge in recent days.
A project supervisor said the company is performing routine maintenance activities on the span over the Chenango River. He said the job began about two weeks ago and should be completed soon.
Drivers have encountered traffic pattern changes while the project is underway. Lanes are shifted to provide space for workers and construction equipment.
The sidewalk is closed on one side of the bridge at a time, allowing pedestrians to use the other side.
The Court Street span is one of four bridges that cross the Chenango River in Binghamton. The current bridge was built in 1970. It underwent a major reconstruction in 2008.
