U.S. Senator Schumer Says $13.5 Billion Ready to Fix NY Roads
New York State is in for billions of dollars in federal funding being allocated to fix deteriorating bridges according to the state’s senior U.S. Senator.
Democrat Charles Schumer made a swing through Delaware County October 11 to announce about $13.5 billion has been secured in the latest infrastructure bill for work on transportation projects state-wide.
The Senate Majority Leader says there are 240 bridges in the Southern Tier that are deemed by transportation officials to be “structurally deficient.”
Schumer says of the $13.5 billion in infrastructure rehabilitation funding for New York State, $1.9 billion dollars is earmarked to fix and repair bridges.
Schumer is also touting the legislation as a boon to the economy and says the funds will create thousands of union jobs.
