When I was in high school, back in the stone age, New York State Regents exams were something to be feared. But they were not a requirement to take. I don't know why, but I never had to take the Regents exam when I was in high school.

According to the Study website, there are around 11 New York State Regents exams. And further goes on to mention that five exams need to be taken and passed as a requirement to graduate.

A passing grade is 65 or higher for most and is administered in the months of January, June, and August. And high school students can take the exams anytime during their high school career after they have completed the needed coursework, not just in their senior year.
