Two Hurt As Car Becomes Airborne, Strikes Vehicle in Conklin
Authorities say a Conklin man faces charges after the car he was driving hit an embankment, struck a parked vehicle and wound up on its roof.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened around 6:40 p.m. Saturday at 1923 Conklin Road. The scene is less than a mile from the Pennsylvania state line.
Investigators say 30-year-old Andre Wenzlik was driving the 1992 Honda Civic southbound when it veered onto the east shoulder of the roadway.
The car became airborne and hit an unoccupied parked vehicle in a driveway before overturning and coming to rest in the yard of a residence.
A front seat passenger, 21-year-old Dakota McClaine of Conklin, was ejected from the car.
Wenzlik and McClaine were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of injuries. Their conditions were not released.
Minutes before the crash, someone called 911 to report a Honda Civic was being operated in an erratic manner inside the nearby Fountain Bleu Mobile Home Park. The car was seen turning south on Conklin Road.
Investigators say Wenzlik is to be charged with driving while intoxicated. He also is to be ticketed for vehicle and traffic violations.
