Pennsylvania State Police say the majority of the people in a sport utility vehicle that crashed into a tree in Sheshequin Township April 20, leaving two dead, were not wearing seat belts.

69 year old Joan Fiscus of Towanda, who was driving, was killed in the crash along with one of her four passengers, 45 year old Janet Alvoid of Towanda.  Troopers say they don’t know why the Ford Explorer left  Hornbrooke Road at 12:57 p.m. and crashed into the tree.

46 year old Paul Burgess, 18 year old Edward Burgess and 19 year old Matthew Burgess, all of Towanda, were taken to Robert Packer Hospital for evaluation. None of those passengers was seriously hurt.

Troopers say the teens were not wearing seat belts.

Both Fiscus and Alvoid were pronounced dead at the scene.
