New York State Police have released the names of the man and woman whose bodies were found after fire tore through their Kirkwood home on Thursday.

Investigators identified them as Peter Cirba and Stephanie Cirba. They were both 81 years old.

According to a news release: "No criminal activity is suspected in the cause of the fire." Police did not reveal how the fire started or the cause of death.


Authorities are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were discovered in a town of Kirkwood residence following an intense fire.

Firefighters were sent to the house on Old State Road shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday. The scene is a short distance northeast of the city of Binghamton.

According to New York State Police, the structure was fully engulfed when troopers arrived.

Firefighters from ten volunteer departments battled the raging blaze.

A state police news release did not provide the names of those whose bodies were found. It indicated the cause of the fire is under investigation but provided no information as to whether the deaths were the result of the blaze or other circumstances.
