Almost a year to the day after New York State Trooper Christopher Skinner was allegedly deliberately run over on Interstate 81 near Castle Creek, a trial date has been set for his accused killer.

60 year old Almond Upton of Melrose, Florida claimed he was in “a time-warp” on May 29, 2014 when he veered from the passing lane, hitting Skinner who was conducting a traffic stop on the shoulder of the highway, killing him.

Upton’s first-degree murder trial is to start November 10.

He could face up to life in prison with no possibility of parole if he is convicted.

In the days following his death, Skinner was described as an enthusiastic member of the State Police, who was dedicated to enforcing the law around work zones, and an avid farmer.

The community was especially shaken since Skinner’s death came only two months after Johnson City Police Officer David, D.W., Smith was shot to death while responding to a disturbance call near Wilson Hospital.
