Nonstop Growth: Dollar General Plans Another Vestal Parkway Store
Dollar General's aggressive expansion continues as the company plans to open a second store on the Vestal Parkway.
The Tennessee-based company has plans to open 800 new locations across the United States this year. Several of them are in the Binghamton area.
Dollar General wants to open its next Broome County store in the town of Vestal.
The company is seeking permission to construct a 10,540-square-foot building at 136 Vestal Parkway East. The site is located east of the busy Four Corners intersection. It's west of Clayton Avenue Elementary School and Vestal High School.
Dollar General wants to build the new store with fewer parking spaces than required by town code. Vestal guidelines call for 43 spaces; Dollar General wants approval to have only 35 spaces.
The property where the store would be located is owned by Fishs Eddy LLC of Johnson City.
If its built, the store would be Dollar General's 24th location in Broome and Tioga counties.
Many of the company's stores are located within a short distance of each other.
The newest area Dollar General store opened last month at 68 Main Street on Binghamton's West Side.
That store was in operation for a short time before it was temporarily closed after water flooded about half of its merchandise area following a rain storm.
