Finally! Transformation of Broome’s “Biggest Eyesore” Has Begun
The long-awaited makeover of the sprawling building dubbed the "biggest eyesore in Broome County" is underway.
Construction workers have been busy over the past couple of months inside the old Endicott Johnson Victory building at 59 Lester Avenue in Johnson City.
Syracuse developer Matthew Paulus has said his $30 million project would turn the abandoned complex into 108 apartments and 7,500 square feet of commercial space.
Paulus acquired the century-old building for $1.6 million early last year.
Lights now are visible throughout the massive structure, which most recently had been used as a storage facility.
When Paulus announced his redevelopment plan last December, he indicated the project could be completed in early 2023.
County Executive Jason Garnar in the past had described the property as "the biggest eyesore in Broome County."
