A three-alarm fire in the Town of Tioga has left a family of three homeless.

Officials say the fire on West Whitcomb Hill Road broke out at noon February 28 when homeowners were attempting to thaw frozen pipes with a space heater under their trailer.

Fire officials say the family lost everything.

The Tioga Center Fire Chief says the space heater put out too much heat and highly flammable insulation under the mobile home was ignited.

The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
