Town of Binghamton Seeks County Funds for Park Project
Drainage improvement work at a park in the town of Binghamton could be made with financial help from Broome County.
The town is seeking $18,355 for the project at Jackson Park, which is located southeast of Hawleyton Road near the state line.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said the money for the work would be provided by the Small Communities Grant Fund. He said the town's request has been approved by the county hotel-motel committee.
The park has four fields for softball and baseball games. Drainage issues caused delays in the use of the facilities last spring after an unusually snowy and wet April.
Town Supervisor Tim Whitesell said a plan was developed to address the drainage problem after the disruption of youth sporting events for most of the spring season.
The funding request is expected to be considered by the county legislature next month.
