Tornado Damage in Susquehanna Pennsylvania
The National Weather Service in Binghamton says a weak tornado is responsible for some of the damage in the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania after strong storms left thousands without electricity, damage to homes and some impassible roads early April 15. No injuries were reported.
An EF1 tornado was on the ground in Harford Township in Susquehanna County at around 1:50 a.m., lasting only a couple minutes. The duration of the burst was enough to destroy a barn, bring down trees and wires and damage other buildings.
Meanwhile, a micro-burst of straight-line wind is suspected of being responsible for toppling utility poles and trees throughout the area, closing several roads, including Conklin Road that was out of service for most of the day. The wind is also blamed for peeling the brick facade off the Conklin Fire Station.
Hundreds of New York State Electric and Gas customers were still waking up on April 16 with no power. Over 360 customers in Delaware County were looking at a 4 p.m. possible restoration time, noon for Apalachin in Tioga County and just "assessing" for over 100 customers in Broome County according to the NYSEG website.
The cost of the damage is still under assessment.
