Tioga County Man Charged With Weapon Possession
A town of Owego man has been accused of having a gun without a permit.
Authorities say 38-year-old Ryan Letcher of Cafferty Hill Road was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, Letcher is alleged to have had a .22 caliber pistol in his possession at his home.
Investigators say Letcher does not have a valid permit to possess the gun. He was ordered to appear in Owego town court on Thursday.
Federal authorities on Friday announced Letcher had been indicted on a count of making a false statement.
Officials said Letcher, who had worked for BAE Systems in Endicott, had informed the Defense Department that a contractor was a foreign intelligence officer. Authorities said Letcher knew that was not true.
