A state trooper called for a tow truck for a driver after a vehicle developed mechanical problems on a Tioga County roadway. The trooper then arrested the motorist.

Authorities say 46-year-old Daniel Perry of Barton wound up being charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

The trooper who stopped to assist Perry on Whitcomb Hill Road in the town of Tioga determined a plate on the broken down vehicle had been reported stolen.

Police say Perry apparently was illegally driving a vehicle his mother had acquired for scrap metal.

Perry was ordered to appear in Tioga town court on Wednesday.
